Dale Marshall

Dale has been practicing law in Victoria since his call to the BC Bar in 1989. After completing his BA in Criminology at Simon Fraser University and his Law Degree at the University of Victoria, Dale has devoted his practice to defending people charged with criminal offences and assisting people injured in Motor Vehicle accidents. He now focuses his practice entirely on defending criminal charges.

His vast experience and many years before the courts have resulted in successfully defending individuals accused of a wide variety of criminal charges including drug offences, driving offences, assault related offences and homicide. He has been lead counsel on several high profile cases resulting in acquittals or reduced charges. In addition, Dale has been hired on occasion to prosecute a variety of criminal charges before the courts including matters in BC Supreme Court with a Jury.

Dale recognizes that facing a criminal charge is stressful for both the accused and their family and he works hard to help them through the complicated Criminal Justice System with compassion and expertise. He regularly appears in the BC Provincial Court and BC Supreme Court. He has extensive experience in the BC Court of Appeal.

When you are facing a criminal charge, you want somebody on your side who has experience and the respect of the Courts and Crown Office to get you the best possible result. Whether your case requires discussion and negotiation with Crown or vigorously fighting the allegations in court, Dale brings the experience and reputation you need.

When he is not in the Courtroom, Dale teaches Criminal Procedure at the University of Victoria Law School. He also volunteers in the community, regularly appearing as a guest speaker at local High School law classes and community groups. His favourite time away from work is spent with his family. He has played and coached baseball, soccer, and hockey in Victoria for several decade and still enjoys his time at the golf course and on the ice playing old timers’ hockey (just like real hockey, only slower). After many years of tormenting referees and umpires as a player and coach, he now enjoys umpiring youth fastpitch and learning the hard way how challenging that is!
